River Park was developed in cooperation between the Central Nebraska Resource
District, the Hall County Public Works Department, and the Hall County
Parks Department. There is a lake for
all-season family enjoyment with the exception of swimming. The park is primitive and
no facilities are provided. A 100 foot river viewing deck is on the property which offers a
wonderful view of the spring bird migration.
This handicap-accessible viewing platform provides an excellent view of
cranes and waterfowl roosting on both sides of the Platte's Alda Bridge
at sunrise and sunset. This site has a small lake and a paved hiking
trail. It is adjacent to a private sandpit lake that may attract over
100,000 geese. Parking is available and best times for viewing are sunset and
sunrise. Besides cranes, herons, egrets, pelicans, waterfowl, song
sparrows and a host of other birds can be seen comfortably from this
wooden deck.
Six endangered species are also found along the Platte River at different times of the year including the Bald Eagle, Eskimo Curlew, Least Tern, Peregrine Falcon, Piping Plover and Whooping Crane.
Located in Hall County, 2 miles south of I-80 exit 305 on the Alda Road.
