Stuhr Museum- Edgar & Frances Reynolds Research Center, Library & Archives

Open 9:00 a.m.  - 5:00 p.m. or by appointment. The Research Center operates a non-lending library that includes books relating to Hall County, Nebraska, the Great Plains, and the American West. The archival collection includes federal and state records (land, postal, census); Hall County newspapers on microfilm; Hall County government records (naturalization, circuit court, probates, abstracts of title); city directories; maps, atlases, and plat books; photographs; personal papers of Hall County residents; and other genealogical resources.

Grand Island Edith Abbott Memorial Library 

Edith Abbott Memorial Library/Heritage Room/Edith Abbott Research Center:

The Heritage Room is open to the public Monday through Thursday 9:00 am –9:00 pm, Friday/Saturday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm and Sunday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm during the school year.  Summer hours are Monday –Thursday 9:00am – 7:30pm and

Friday & Saturday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm.  Closed Sundays.

Special Collections:

  • The Lue R. Spencer Genealogical collection
  • The Sprague collection (holdings from the Prairie Pioneer Genealogy collection). 
  • Non-circulating history and genealogy resources.
  • A dedicated computer for genealogy enthusiasts for use of library databases “Ancestry Library edition” and “Heritage Quest”.
  • (3) Micro film readers with printing availability
  • (1) Micro film reader with enhanced viewing, high resolution flat bed scanner for books, photos, negatives and other film media and ability to save images/text to USB thumb drive .

Cairo Roots Research Museum

Newly remodeled the facility houses historical resources such family files, genealogies, bound Cairo “Records” newspapers from 1946-2010 with a earlier dates included,  early settler /Cairo historical photographs from Balcom -Green Collection (1,200 glass plate negatives), reference books, as well as various articles, publications and such.                  2011 marks Cairo 125th Anniversary.   

Display cases contain artifacts connected to the Pawnee Nation, pioneers, military, natural history, mementos from local citizens dating from mid-1800’s – current.
