This marker details what occurred during one of several Indian uprisings in the 1860s. Sioux and Cheyenne Indians attacked and captured four of the Campbell children on July 24, 1867. In mid-August, Pawnee Scouts fought a Cheyenne band near Plum Creek where a woman and boy where taken prisoners. A month later, some white prisoners were exchanged for Indian captives at a meeting. The marker was erected by the Nebraska State Historical Society.
